Back at the Toumba for qualification

Although they were defeated, PAOK’s U-19 side showed character, and above all, still have a chance to qualify for the Round of 32 of the UEFA Youth League.

PAOK’s U-19 side lost 2-1 to Legia Warsaw in the first leg match of their third round tie in the Domestic Champions path, in a freezing Warsaw, but they still have room and the quality to turn the situation around in the second leg, which will be held at the Toumba Stadium on 09.12 (17:30).

Tsiapakidis’ and Hagan’s players were surprised in the early stages and found themselves chasing the score before the first minute was even completed. Kovacik scored with a wonderful effort. PAOK then took control along the way, however, and although they did not fashion a scoring chance of note, they were not threatened either. Unfortunately, that last only until the 41st minute, when in an identical phase of play Kovacik scored again to make it 2-0.

PAOK’s second half display, however, was excellent. Dominant football, dynamism and some tougher challenges saw the visitors methodically search for a goal to get back in the game and they found it in the 79th minute with a header by Giokas, after a cross from Tsifoutis. PAOK could have equalized but in the end they left Warsaw defeated and are already preparing for the return match at the Toumba.

Legia: Bieduga, Laurin, Chojeski, Kosiorek, Mikanovic, Ruzkiewicz, Mosier (3′ Przbilko), Fox, Kovacic, Mizera, Pcelka (71′ Piasta).

PAOK: Beleris, Polykratis, Bataoulas, Kosidis, Tsiotas, Sznaucner, Papadopoulos (58′ Gioka), Toursounidis (58′ Balde), Dunga (83′ Aretis), Berdos (71′ Tsifoutis), Mythou (83′ Stylos).
