The only leg of the stage took place at Peristeri. The \u201cDouble-Headed Eagle\u201d were in command, but Leandros, Sarafis and Afentoulidis wasted many opportunities to break the deadlock in the first half.<\/p>\n
Atromitos caught their rivals unawares just after the interval (47\u2019). Following a free kick by Kanellopoulos, Psychogiannis created havoc in PAOK\u2019s defence and the ball landed at the path of Koukis who dispatched it for the opener.<\/p>\n
PAOK replied swiftly, also from a set piece, Fountoukidis scoring with an expertly taken direct free kick from 20 metres out. PAOK and Atromitos both enjoyed several opportunities to finish off the match before it headed to extra time. In the 98th minute, PAOK had legitimate claims for a penalty when Psyrogiannis handed the ball in the area, but the referee awarded a free kick instead. In the dying minute of extra time, Afentoulidis had a glorious chance to seal qualification, but it remained 1-1 after Adamakis\u2019 final whistle.<\/p>\n
Back then there was no penalty shootout and the two outfits disagreed on the way to decide qualification. The referee suggested coin flipping, the umpire wanted a draw to be held. Finally it was head or tails and PAOK were luckier and clinched a place in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n
